What To Expect

1

Day 1: Kigali to Nyungwe Forest and Environs

A 5 hour journey around the Nyungwe Forest and its environs. Your guide will make stops on the way at places of interest including local markets and the traditional palace of Rwanda’s former King in Nyanza. Visit the Botanical Gardens in Butare and a cultural museum before going for lunch. In the afternoon, drive past green fields of tea scattered across the hillsides and the small wooden houses unique to the areas surrounding Nyungwe Forest. Accommodation at Gisakura Guest House.

2

Day 2: Nyungwe Forest National park

A guided chimpanzee walk early in the morning in the forest to see a variety of animals and some of the 300 bird species found here, including the Rwenzori Turaco and Black and White Casqued Hornbill. Go on an escorted walk in search of large groups of colobus monkeys – sometimes as many as 400 in a troop. Return late afternoon back to your lodge.

3

Day 3: Kibuye

A 2 hour drive to Kibuye along the stunning Lake Kivu, through the beautiful countryside, crossing valleys full of agricultural produce. You will arrive at Kibuye, which is one of the three resort towns on Lake Kivu, for lunch.

Take a boat out on the lake to see and experience the various islands. Swim in the refreshing waters of the lake or stroll about in the nearby villages. Enjoy the rest of the day at your own pleasure.

A roughly 6 hour scenic drive north to Kinigi via Ruhengeri. Enjoy the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known. Accommodation at Kinigi Guest House

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking - Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park is a premier destination for tracking endangered mountain gorillas. Trekking through the forest, hills and swamps can be tough, arduous and tiring, sometimes taking up to 8 hours. However, coming face to face with the great primates is well worth the effort.

6

Day 6: Golden Monkey Tracking - Volcanoes National Park and back to Kigali

Track the endangered golden monkeys, thereafter have your lunch, afterwhich you will drive for approximately 2 hours back to Kigali and later be transferred to the airport for your flight.
